Hello! My name is Shannan and I am the creator of Rolling Traveling Stone. First, I would like to thank you for visiting this website. I hope you find it helpful and that it provides a window to see and feel different travel experiences. I think it’s important to share some background with you to get a picture of who I am and how I can help you. So, why “Rolling Traveling Stone?” Well, in college, after returning from a semester studying abroad, a good friend of mine called me a rolling stone. Not only had I traveled all over Europe while studying abroad in England, I also decided that I wasn’t ready to come home after the semester was over (now that I have 3 kids of my own, I realize how hard this must have been on my parents…sorry Mom and Dad!). After obtaining my work visa, I stayed on in England working at a hotel in the Lake District in exchange for room and board. After returning to the US with this incredible experience etched in my heart, I immediately booked a trip to Amsterdam with my study abroad friends. When I returned home from Amsterdam, I immediately booked a trip back to England, and then a trip to drive across the United States, and so on. Hence, the name rolling stone. I have stayed in Youth Hostels, camped, and have stayed in 5 star resorts and have had to find what corners to cut and what to skimp on in order to splurge on vacations. I want you to see that you can do this too!
Before we start, there are a few things you should know about me. For one, I am not a big planner when it comes to travel. Don’t get me wrong, I book the essentials but I also love to get recommendations from local people, find hidden gems and just see where the road takes us. In doing so, I have met the most incredible people and experiences that I likely wouldn’t have had if everything was planned out. This has led to adventures filled with laughter, new experiences and stories we will never forget!
My hope is to share some of these stories with you… favorite places, restaurants, activities, and best of all adventures in hopes to inspire you too. When life gets tough, it is your experiences and memories you will cherish forever.
